Did you know? Right after bleaching, enamel surfaces become roughened and porous—making them more prone to staining from coffee, wine, and other pigments. A new in vitro study published in Journal of Functional Biomaterials (2025) shows that applying fluoride varnish immediately after bleaching can significantly reduce short-term discoloration and protect enamel. 🔬 Key findings: Application of fluoride varnish immediately after bleaching reduced staining by up to two-thirds compared to untreated enamel. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis showed smoother enamel surfaces and signs of remineralization in varnish-treated groups. Enamelast® demonstrated greater adhesion and protective effects even after brushing. This in vitro study demonstrated that the application of fluoride varnish immediately after bleaching effectively reduced early discoloration on the enamel surfaces Enamelast® exhibits greater retention and efficacy after brushing as compared to competitors. These results suggest that fluoride varnish provides a physical barrier against staining and may contribute to enamel surface protection. These findings highlight the potential of fluoride varnish application as a simple and effective strategy to maintain bleaching outcomes and to prevent short-term discoloration after bleaching. Enamelast® Fluoride Varnish is available in selected regions. Check with your local dealer/distributor for availability in your region.

While there is no doubt irradiance adds value, it does not tell the full story of how well a light will cure various materials. Irradiance tests typically only show the irradiance of a very small portion of the light. Measuring the power distributed over the entire beam tells a more comprehensive story of its curing capabilities.
